5 ideas for Valentine's Day 2022

On February 14, we celebrate love in all its forms. In this short blog I'll give you some tips to celebrate Valentine's Day with your loved ones.

1. Flowers and a handwritten letter
A bouquet flowers or a rose will melt any heart. Tip: go to the local florist for the most beautiful flowers with a longer shelf life. My personal favorite are peonies. Also write a heartfelt letter and you have the perfect Valentine's gift!

2. Personal playlist
Create your own playlist in Spotify and add all the songs with a special memory or meaning.

3. Love goes through the stomach
Cook his or her favorite meal. Not such a star in the kitchen? Follow a recipe or keep it simple. After all, it's all about the gesture. Don't forget the candles!

4. Wellness at home
Create a home spa with facial masks, candles, massage and soothing music. Relax together!

7 self-care tips to try out right away

Do you take good care of yourself? In the past years, self-care has received more attention which is not surprising: more and more people experience a lot of stress, burnout complaints or struggle with depression. By taking good care of yourself, you will feel better about yourself and you will strengthen yourself mentally, physically, emotionally and maybe even spiritually.

In this blog I will give you some personal tips to take better care of yourself. I will skip the most common advice such as at least 8 hours of sleep, nutritious meals and exercise. Try the tip that appeals to you the most and feel what it has done to your mood, body and mind. Is it something to apply weekly or perhaps daily?

1. Meditation (breathing exercises)
Do you feel tense or restless? Conscious breathing calms your body and relieves stress. Find a comfortable place to sit or lie down. Place one hand on the heart and the other on the stomach. Breathe in through your nose for 4 seconds and then out through your mouth for 4 seconds. During inhalations and exhalations, focus on filling and emptying the lungs. Do you find it difficult to meditate on your own? Follow a guided meditation via Spotify or Youtube.

2. Yoga
Connect your body and mind with yoga. Yoga offers many benefits: it provides relaxation, concentration and focus, strengthens your muscles, creates awareness and improves posture. There are many types of yoga, each with a different purpose. There are countless free lessons on YouTube for every level. The Down Dog app is a must!

3. Social media detox
Some time ago I noticed that I was active a lot on social media, especially Instagram. Scrolling for hours for some entertainment gave me a negative feeling afterwards. Subconsciously it fed my ego: I became insecure because of the perfect, but unrealistic pictures. I also realized that it added little value to my daily life. I decided to unfollow all people and pages that do not add value to me on a personal level and have been very careful with the use of social media ever since.

4. Walk and listen
It seems superfluous to mention the benefits of walking. Make walking less boring by listening to a podcast or audiobook. Choose a podcast/audiobook that interests you, do you want to learn something or just listen to a fictional story?

5. Repeat Affirmations
Affirmations are simply short, strong positive sentences. You can train your brain to reinforce positive thoughts with affirmations. By repeating them often, it will manifest itself. Formulate an affirmation that suits you and what you need at that moment. Repeat this a few times in your head or say it. Some examples are: “I can achieve anything I want,” “I am open to love,” or “I am grateful for all the blessings in my life.” The app 'I am' sends notifications with positive messages and you can set it according to your wishes (frequency and themes).

6. Book a massage, manicure or facial
Treat yourself to a treatment from a professional.

7. Me time
Schedule a set time of the week for self-care to make it a habit. I myself have declared Sunday 'Selfcare Sunday'. On this day I give myself a manicure, epilate my eyebrows, wash my hair and take a yoga class.
